HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Land Trust of North Alabama, the City of Huntsville and the Alabama Trails Foundation are celebrating the Year of Alabama Trails by spotlighting one of Huntsville’s favorite outdoor destinations: the Bill and Marion Certain Trail at Blevins Gap Nature Preserve.

The 1.97-mile trail begins at the Blevins Gap Trailhead and is known for its scenic overlooks and panoramic views. The route climbs steadily for about a half mile before leveling out along a ridge, where hikers can enjoy overlooks on both sides. While the beginning is moderately challenging, much of the trail offers a relatively easy and rewarding outdoor experience.

Mayor Tommy Battle said access to trails, greenways, and natural spaces is part of what makes Huntsville a great place to live. He said trails provide opportunities for exercise while also showing off the city’s natural beauty.

The celebration is part of a statewide initiative led by the Alabama Tourism Department and the Alabama Trails Foundation. Throughout 2026, communities across Alabama are hosting hikes, events, and educational programs to encourage residents and visitors to explore the state’s trail systems.

Marie Bostick, executive director of the Land Trust of North Alabama, said trails connect people to nature, improve quality of life, and bring communities together outdoors.

For Huntsville, the spotlight on Blevins Gap reinforces the value of preserving natural spaces while promoting healthy lifestyles, tourism, and outdoor recreation.
