Residents at Star Pointe Senior Living in Huntsville are searching for answers — and solutions — after many seniors reported going for weeks without receiving important mail, including medications, bills, insurance documents, and financial checks.
Tenants say regular mail service unexpectedly stopped without warning, creating stress for residents who rely heavily on the postal system for essential daily needs.
“It’s very wrong. There’s no reason for that,” resident Pat Kelly told WHNT News 19. “And the way that it was done, it’s ridiculous.
Speakin’ Out News is now encouraging seniors affected by delivery disruptions to take immediate action by contacting local postal supervisors, filing formal complaints with the United States Postal Service, and requesting temporary mail pickup arrangements if deliveries continue to be delayed.
Speakin’ Out News also recommends seniors enroll in USPS Informed Delivery, a free service that allows residents to digitally monitor incoming mail and packages. Families are also being encouraged to help elderly relatives switch critical services — such as Social Security payments, prescription refills, and utility bills — to direct deposit or electronic delivery when possible.
Call or email your community leaders, such as churches, caregivers, neighborhood volunteers, and senior organizations, who may also help residents arrange transportation to post offices or retrieve important mail.
“It’s just an issue of you depend on the mail service, and it’s very unreliable at this stage,” resident Janice Grass told WHNT News 19.
Advocates are also calling on local elected officials to intervene if delays continue, warning that unreliable mail delivery can seriously impact seniors with health conditions, mobility challenges, or fixed incomes.
Residents say they hope USPS officials will provide clearer communication and restore dependable service before the situation worsens further.
