SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville’s reputation as a national defense powerhouse continues to grow as Raytheon secures nearly $1 billion in new missile defense contracts—bringing more investment, innovation, and opportunity to the Rocket City.
The Missile Defense Agency announced two major contract actions supporting the Army Navy Transportable Radar Surveillance Control Model-2, known as the AN/TPY-2 radar system. Together, the awards total close to $1 billion and will extend critical work through 2030.
The largest portion—a $773.5 million contract modification—will support continued research and development, increasing the overall contract ceiling to $2.24 billion. A second award of $193.2 million will fund system upgrades, spare components, and ongoing development efforts.
Both contracts are being managed at Redstone Arsenal, reinforcing Huntsville’s central role in national security operations.
The AN/TPY-2 radar is a key part of the nation’s missile defense system, designed to detect, track, and identify incoming ballistic missile threats. The system works alongside interceptor technologies used by U.S. forces and allied nations, making it a critical line of defense in an increasingly complex global environment.
As these programs grow, so does Raytheon’s footprint in Huntsville. Local teams are playing a major role in designing, testing, and validating the advanced radar technology—creating high-skilled jobs and strengthening the region’s defense workforce.
For Huntsville, this investment is more than just numbers—it’s a signal of continued growth and national importance.
Because in a city built on innovation and defense, every advancement doesn’t just protect the nation—it powers the local economy.
