SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

LIMESTONE COUNTY, Ala. — The growth across North Alabama isn’t slowing down—and Limestone County is leading the charge for the seventh year in a row.
New data from the U.S. Census Bureau confirms that Limestone County remains the fastest-growing county in Alabama, with its population reaching 122,928 in 2025. That marks an increase of nearly 3,900 residents in just one year and more than 19,000 new residents since 2020—an impressive 18.7% growth overall.
Now ranked as the 10th most populous county in the state, Limestone is quickly closing in on neighboring Morgan County, with officials saying it could soon surpass it.
Local leaders say this growth is no accident.
“This isn’t a streak we take for granted,” said Bethany Shockney, President and CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association. “Every person who chose to put down roots here reflects the work our community has done… to build a place where businesses grow and families thrive.”
Much of the county’s success is tied to its proximity to Huntsville, one of the fastest-growing metro areas in the country. As jobs expand in aerospace, defense, and technology, more families are choosing Limestone County for its affordability, workforce opportunities, and quality of life.
County leadership says they are focused on managing that growth responsibly.
“Limestone County is growing because people see what we see every day: a community that invests in its future,” said Commission Chairman Collin Daly.
With billions in new investments and a growing workforce pipeline, Limestone County is becoming a major player in the Southeast’s economic landscape.
And as the region grows together, one thing is clear: what happens in Limestone County impacts Huntsville—and beyond.
