Huntsville, AL – The Girl Scout Promise: “On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law.” On Saturday, March 16, 2019, Girl Scout Ambassador
Shania Williams, a member of Troop #729 at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, presented “If You Can Dream It – You Can Be It” Conference for High School Girls, which included presenters covering topics in Self-Confidence, Peer Pressure and Bullying, Teen Pregnancy, Encouragement, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Planning Your Careers, and Self-Esteem. This conference was the final step for Shania in order to receive the highest achievement within the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, “The Gold Award.” Only 5.4% of eligible Girl Scouts successfully earn this award. For Shania, this was no easy task, which began when she was eight years old. With encouragement from her parents Anthony and Renetta Williams and Girl Scout Leaders at Union Chapel Church, she received this prestigious and well deserved honor. Shania had to choose a project related to the Girl Scout Promise and Law. This project had to demonstrate civic responsibility. She then had to research the project, get help from others, create a plan that would have a lasting change, present her plan in the form of a written and verbal proposal to the local Girl Scout Council for their approval on how her project would impact her and the community, and finally take action on how you can get community participation.
Starting as a Daisy, and bridging to Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador, Shania has exemplified what Scouting is all about.
