HOUSTON — A Texas funeral director accused of attempting to steal a deceased man’s multimillion-dollar estate has been released from jail after posting an $800,000 bond, according to authorities.
Unique Green, also identified in court records as Michael Green, faces multiple felony charges tied to an alleged scheme involving the more than $2 million estate of Lawrence Gammon.
Investigators say Green was hired by Gammon’s family to handle funeral arrangements but allegedly failed to provide the services they paid for. Family members later contacted law enforcement after suspecting their personal information had been misused.
According to investigators, Green later filed probate documents claiming he was Gammon’s surviving spouse and entitled to inherit the estate. Authorities allege the filing included a fraudulent will transferring control of the estate to Green.
Gammon’s relatives said they were unaware of any relationship between Green and the deceased before his death. Green’s attorney has maintained that his client believes he has legal rights to the estate but has not publicly detailed the basis for that claim.
Prosecutors also accuse Green of submitting false information while seeking funeral director and embalmer licenses, including allegedly misrepresenting military service and operating a funeral home without a valid license.
The criminal investigation remains ongoing as the probate dispute proceeds through the courts.
