ANDERSON, Ind. — A 15-year-old Indiana teenager has been sentenced to 100 years in prison after being convicted in the fatal 2025 shooting of a woman who prosecutors say was not the intended target.
Jo’Majze Larry was found guilty of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, criminal organization activity and dangerous possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting at Sonny Ray’s Café in Anderson.
According to prosecutors, the attack was linked to members of the Mickey Cobra Nation (MCN) criminal organization. Authorities said the group intended to target a key witness in another criminal case, but 26-year-old Dayla Swain was struck by gunfire and later died.
Judge David Happe sentenced Larry to 50 years for murder and added another 50 years under Indiana’s criminal organization enhancement law, bringing the total sentence to 100 years.
Investigators said surveillance video, physical evidence and social media posts helped connect Larry to the case. After the shooting, authorities said he traveled to Wisconsin before later surrendering to police.
Several other defendants also face charges or have already been sentenced as the investigation continues. One co-defendant received a 90-year sentence, while additional suspects remain awaiting trial or sentencing.
Under Indiana law, Larry may petition for a sentence reduction after serving at least 20 years because he was a juvenile at the time of the offense, though any reduction is not guaranteed.
