HUNTSVILLE — North Alabama residents now have a new opportunity to experience Redstone Arsenal beyond its military mission thanks to the launch of the Redstone Recreation Passport, a new initiative designed to welcome eligible community members onto the installation for recreation and leisure activities.
The program, launched July 9 through a partnership between Redstone Arsenal Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) and the Madison Chamber of Commerce, provides qualified visitors with a free recreational badge that grants access to select Family and MWR facilities for six months.
Participants can enjoy a variety of destinations, including Links at Redstone Golf Course, Redstone Lanes Bowling Center, Weeden Mountain Grill, Java Café, Strike Zone, Vincent Park Disc Golf Course, Vincent Park Dog Park, and the Arsenal’s scenic hiking and biking trails.
To receive a recreational badge, applicants must visit the Redstone Arsenal Visitor Control Center outside Gate 9, present a valid STAR ID or other approved driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record, and successfully complete a background check. The Visitor Control Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
After receiving their badge, participants may pick up a printed Recreation Passport from the Madison Chamber of Commerce or participating MWR locations, or download a digital version online. Visitors collect stamps or check-offs at participating locations, and those who complete at least three stops can redeem their passport for prizes provided by the Chamber and Redstone Arsenal Family and MWR.
Officials say the program offers a fun and family-friendly way for Huntsville and Madison residents to discover the recreational side of Redstone Arsenal while strengthening community ties with one of North Alabama’s most recognizable military installations.
