HUNTSVILLE — One of Huntsville’s most recognizable musicians has received a lasting tribute as the City officially renamed both a downtown street and a popular dog park in honor of blues artist and community advocate “Microwave” Dave Gallaher.
The Huntsville City Council recently approved resolutions designating a portion of Cleveland Avenue as Microwave Dave Way and renaming the City’s Downtown Dog Spot as the Microwave Dave Dog Spot, recognizing Gallaher’s decades of service to the local music and arts community.
The newly named Microwave Dave Way stretches along Cleveland Avenue between Meridian Street and Church Street, while the dog park now permanently bears the musician’s name. New signs have already been installed at both locations.
For years, Gallaher has been a familiar face throughout North Alabama, earning respect not only as an accomplished blues musician but also as an educator, mentor and passionate supporter of local artists. His efforts have helped nurture Huntsville’s growing music scene while encouraging aspiring performers and strengthening the city’s cultural identity.
City leaders said the dual dedication reflects Gallaher’s lasting impact on Huntsville and recognizes the role he has played in making the community a vibrant destination for music, creativity and the arts.
The honor ensures that residents and visitors alike will continue to be reminded of Gallaher’s contributions every time they travel downtown or visit one of the city’s popular public spaces.
