Huntsville Parks & Recreation offers pools and splash pads to help residents cool off during Alabama’s summer heat.

As Alabama heat settles in, Huntsville Parks & Recreation is offering residents a cooler way to stay active through its summer “blue spaces.”

The city’s aquatic options include the Huntsville Aquatics Center, the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Pool and public splash pads designed for families, children, fitness swimmers and beginners. The facilities provide lap swimming, family swim, water exercise classes, diving, water polo and casual recreation.

The Huntsville Aquatics Center, located at 2213 Drake Ave. SW, is a 90,000-square-foot facility with three large pools and programming for multiple ages and skill levels. The Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Pool, located at 4600 Blue Spring Road NW, offers lap swim, lounge swim, water exercise and diving boards.

Daily admission is $4. Season passes and punch cards are also available. The city’s splash pads opened May 22 for the summer season, including Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Splash Pad and Everybody Can Play Splash Pad. Bicentennial Park Splash Pad is closed for repairs.

City officials say safety remains a priority, with certified lifeguards at pools and reminders for adults to supervise children closely.

For families looking to cool off without leaving town, Huntsville’s pools and splash pads offer a fun, affordable way to enjoy summer while staying connected to the community.
