The commencement program included inspiring remarks, musical selections, and words of encouragement, reminding graduates that their accomplishments were not only personal victories but also victories for their communities and families.

For Dr. Smothers-Carter, the moment was made even more meaningful by the strong support system surrounding her. Sitting proudly among the attendees was her father, William D. Also celebrating this major achievement was her mother, Morgan County Educator and Pastor Emma J. White of Redeeming Love Outreach Ministries, whose faith, leadership, and dedication to education helped shape the foundation upon which Dr. Smothers-Carter built her success.

Standing beside her in love and support was her husband, Juni Carter, Weekend Charge Nurse, Acute Medical Care Unit 1, whose encouragement throughout her educational journey reflected the strength of family partnership and shared purpose. Together, the couple has two children, 10-year-old Jabin and 4-year-old Tezara.  The celebration also included Dr. Deloris Smothers, a retiree of Drake State Community & Technical College, whose own educational legacy added even greater significance to the occasion, along with respected educator Freddie Brown, who joined the family in honoring this remarkable accomplishment.

Currently employed at Clearview Cancer Institute, Dr. Smothers-Carter continues to dedicate her professional life to healthcare and compassionate service.
