GE Appliances Shifts Washer Production Back to U.S., Awards $150 Million to American Suppliers

SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

GE Appliances’ Decatur plant remains a key North Alabama manufacturing hub. Louisville’s Appliance Park prepares for new washer and dryer production launching in 2027.

GE Appliances is strengthening its U.S. manufacturing footprint with more than $150 million in new contracts awarded to American suppliers as the company relocates washer and dryer production from China to its Louisville, Kentucky facility. The move also reinforces GE’s presence in Alabama, where operations in DecaturHuntsville, and Auburn continue to support thousands of jobs. Decatur manufactures refrigerator/freezer units, Huntsville produces advanced ceramics for aerospace, and Auburn focuses on 3-D printed engine parts.

The newly announced supplier contracts range from $330,000 to $41 million, covering plastics, steel, aluminum, castings, and other critical materials. Suppliers span 10 states, from major corporations to small family-owned operations. GE Appliances says the contracts increase its domestic supplier spending by 3.3% and will support production of a new washer/dryer combo and additional front-load washers being shifted to the U.S. The company is investing $490 million to retool its Louisville complex, a project expected to create 800 new jobs by 2027.

“When we invest in U.S. manufacturing and our people, it drives growth far beyond our own walls,” said GE Appliances Vice President Lee Lagomarcino.

The shift comes as President Donald Trump continues efforts to bring more production back to America through tariffs on foreign goods, including recent tariff reductions on certain Chinese imports.

The new contracts mark early ripple effects of GE’s broader $3 billion, five-year plan to reshore manufacturing and expand jobs nationwide. Alabama is among the states positioned to benefit as the company strengthens its U.S. supply chain.
