As rising grocery prices and changes to federal food assistance put pressure on Alabama households, Huntsville families have several local programs available to help meet urgent food needs.

The Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP) provides emergency groceries and financial help for households in crisis. With locations on Pulaski Pike and Madison Boulevard, HAP offers food boxes, utility assistance, and referrals to long-term community support. Residents can apply for help or donate at huntsvilleap.org or by calling (256) 539-7797.

The Madison County Department of Human Resources (DHR) continues to process applications for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Residents can apply in person at 2206 Oakwood Ave NW, Huntsville, or online at mydhr.alabama.gov. For information, call (256) 427-6100.

The Manna House, Downtown Rescue Mission, and the Food Bank of North Alabama are community partners that distribute groceries and meals to families throughout the week.

While Huntsville has not announced a formal city-funded relief program, its strong network of nonprofits, churches, and community groups continues to coordinate support for households facing food insecurity.
