Huntsville, AL — This afternoon, Zoie Roberson, Chair of the Youth Caucus of the Madison County Democratic Party, officially launched a dynamic new multi-county campaign called “Fit-to-Vote.” The initiative aims to energize young voters by blending fashion and activism, encouraging individuals to wear outfits that symbolize their commitment to social justice, women’s rights, and other key issues.

In her announcement, Roberson highlighted the creative nature of the campaign, which is part of the broader “Impact Ignite” initiative designed to boost young voter turnout. The “Fit-to-Vote” campaign emphasizes the importance of voting for causes rather than just candidates, focusing on issues that drive people to the polls.

“Morgan County has been an incredibly instrumental partner in this campaign,” Roberson stated before sharing a poignant message from Nicholas Perkins, brother of Steven Perkins, a black man fatally shot by police in Decatur last September. Nicholas Perkins could not attend the event but expressed the significance of the upcoming election, where a woman of color could make history as the next President of the United States.

The “Fit-to-Vote” campaign will officially start with a fashion show on August 17th at the Rotor Rooter Event Center. In collaboration with the Alabama Fashion Alliance, the event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive in their “Fit-to-Vote,” showcasing outfits representing the social or political issues that matter most to them.

This event also comes just days before the start of the Democratic National Convention, which Roberson noted as a historic moment, marking the nomination of a woman of color for the presidency. Roberson concluded with a powerful reminder from Vice President Kamala Harris: “We are not going back.”

The “Fit-to-Vote” campaign represents a creative and inclusive approach to voter engagement. It uses fashion as a medium to express the issues that motivate individuals to vote. With strong support from the community and a focus on artistic expression, the campaign aims to significantly impact voter turnout in the upcoming election.
