Truist closing 2 Alabama branches as part of $750 million cost-cutting measure

Truist plans on closing two Alabama branches as part of a cost-cutting measure that will shutter banks in six states.

According to a company spokesperson, the Alabama branches scheduled to close on March 19 include:

  • 629 Red Lane Road in Birmingham
  • 3419 Pulaski Pike N.W. in Huntsville

The firm is expected to close 72 branches in Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina and West Virginia, in addition to the Alabama locations.

Truist has locations in more than 50 Alabama cities. Following the closures, it will operate 1,900 branches and 2,900 ATMs.

According to the company, clients were informed of the closures last month, along with where they can bank at the next nearest location.

“Except for clients who have a safe deposit box, clients won’t experience any changes with their accounts through this transition,” the company stated. “For the vast majority of branches that are closing, clients will have access to a branch about two-and-a-half miles away on the average.”

Closures were based on several factors including client behavior, branch traffic, and transaction volume.
