HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M University senior Mercy Akinyemi has secured a full-time software engineering position with technology giant Meta, marking a major achievement before her graduation.
Originally from Ogun State, Nigeria, Akinyemi will graduate in May 2027 and expects to begin working in California’s San Francisco Bay Area in June.
A computer science major and Presidential Scholar maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Akinyemi completed competitive summer internships at Meta’s Menlo Park offices in 2025 and 2026.
Her accomplishments extend beyond software development. At Alabama A&M, she researches autonomous vehicle technology, developing systems that help robotic vehicles navigate roads, communicate and avoid collisions.
She also authored research on sensor fusion in self-driving cars and presented her findings at the 2026 IEEE Integrated STEM Education Conference.
“I really enjoy turning ideas into something useful through coding,” Akinyemi said.
Her second Meta internship led to a permanent job offer.
Akinyemi credits her university experience with providing academic opportunities, meaningful relationships, and a foundation for her future career in technology and innovation.
