HUNTSVILLE — Alabama A&M University’s Successful Aging Initiative Conference will mark 25 years of supporting older adults Thursday, Oct. 22, at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 315 Winchester Road.

The free event runs from 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., with more than 600 participants expected from Madison County and surrounding communities.

Hosted by Alabama Cooperative Extension at AAMU through the Virginia Caples Lifelong Learning Institute, the conference carries the theme “Silver Moments, Golden Goals.”

“This year’s theme reflects the belief that every stage of life offers possibilities for growth, purpose, and connection,” said Dr. Danielle Rudolph, event coordinator and institute site director.

Attendees can access health screenings, heart disease genetic testing, and a legal clinic addressing civil matters. An interactive artificial intelligence fraud simulation will help participants recognize scams and protect personal information.

Medication disposal, electronic waste collection, and secure paper shredding will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Adults 50 and older, caregivers, families, and service providers are welcome. Admission and lunch are free. Registration and canned food donations are encouraged.
