HUNTSVILLE — Nobel Prize-winning economist Eric S. Maskin will bring a discussion of rules, incentives, and public decision-making to Alabama A&M University on Friday, Nov. 6.
The Harvard University professor will deliver “An Introduction to Mechanism Design” at 3 p.m. in Dawson Auditorium in the Cooperative Extension Building. The lecture is free and open to the public.
His appearance headlines the 26th Annual Putcha Venkateswarlu Memorial Nobel Laureate Lecture Series, honoring a longtime Alabama A&M physics professor and his dedication to scholarship and scientific discovery.
Mechanism design examines how institutions can achieve goals when people have competing interests or different information. Applications include public policy, voting systems, markets and resource allocation.
Maskin shared the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger Myerson for foundational contributions to the theory.
He will also meet with students and faculty during morning sessions, offering opportunities to exchange ideas and discuss research.
A public reception follows from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Room 233 of the Arthur J. Bond Engineering Building, continuing the campus visit.
