A Georgia family’s graduation celebration turned into heartbreak after a father, his son, and the son’s girlfriend were killed when a large tree fell onto their car.

James K. Walker, 65, his son Kencerio Walker, and Nykeria Johnson died in the crash along Highway 56 South in Burke County, Georgia. Authorities said the tree suddenly toppled and struck the blue Ford Taurus they were riding in. Emergency responders arrived and found all three dead inside the vehicle.

A second vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, was also hit by the falling tree. The 18-year-old driver survived with minor injuries.

The tragedy came just days after Kencerio and Nykeria celebrated graduating from Swainsboro High School. Video from the ceremony reportedly showed Kencerio embracing his father on the football field after receiving his diploma. James Walker, who had once worked at the school, held balloons as he celebrated the milestone with his son and Nykeria.

Family members, classmates, and church leaders remembered Kencerio as a quiet leader who stayed connected to loved ones and often told people he cared about them. James Walker was also remembered warmly by former co-workers, who described him as steady, kind, and positive.

School officials called the deaths devastating for students and staff. A vigil was later held to honor Kencerio Walker and Nykeria Johnson while supporting the grieving family.
