Alabama consumers should check certain Gatorade bottles following a PepsiCo recall involving undeclared food dyes, according to an Oct. 5 notice published by ConsumerLab.
The notice identifies 122,021 cases of certain 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange and Orange Zero. PepsiCo initiated the recall Sept. 25 because affected products contained Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6 that were not declared on their labels. Alabama is among the states listed in the distribution area.
EatingWell reported Oct. 6 that the recall was classified as Class II, a category indicating the possibility of temporary or medically reversible health consequences, or a remote probability of serious consequences. The publication reported no illnesses or injuries at that time.
The recall applies to specified production lots. Consumers should compare the flavor, bottle size, lot number, and date code with the published recall information. ConsumerLab’s notice includes the identifying codes and links to the FDA enforcement report.
EatingWell advises consumers with affected bottles to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Readers can review the ConsumerLab recall notice before deciding whether their bottles are included.
