Toyota is recalling nearly 50,000 pickup trucks across the United States after federal safety officials warned that an engine defect could increase the risk of crashes.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall affects certain 2024 Toyota Tundra trucks equipped with V35A engines. Investigators say debris left behind during the manufacturing process may contaminate the engine and cause a main bearing failure.
Officials warn that the defect could cause sudden engine stalls and loss of power while driving, creating dangerous conditions for motorists and increasing the risk of accidents on busy roadways.
In total, approximately 43,566 vehicles are included in the recall, though Toyota estimates that only about 1% of the recalled trucks may actually contain the defect.
Federal safety officials say a repair solution is currently being developed. Once available, Toyota dealers will perform repairs free of charge for affected vehicle owners.
Toyota plans to begin mailing notification letters to impacted customers on July 6. Drivers are encouraged to monitor recall notices and contact dealerships if they experience unusual engine performance or warning signs.
Vehicle recalls involving engine defects have become a growing concern nationwide as automakers face increased scrutiny over manufacturing safety and quality control issues.
