In a moment that is sparking conversations across Alabama, the Christian Coalition of Alabama
is calling for unity, respect, and accountability after condemning what it describes as “anti-
Muslim rhetoric” from Secretary of State Wes Allen.

The controversy stems from comments Allen made about his Republican opponent, John Wahl,
who recently attended an interfaith event at the Anniston Islamic Center. Allen publicly criticized
Wahl’s participation, stating he would never enter a mosque and claiming there was “no excuse”
for doing so.

In response, the Christian Coalition issued a strong statement denouncing the remarks as harmful
and inconsistent with Christian teachings.
“The Christian Coalition finds (these remarks) deeply troubling and theologically indefensible,”
the organization stated, emphasizing that faith should never be used as a tool for division.
Randy Brinson, president of the Christian Coalition of Alabama, underscored the importance of
compassion and outreach across religious lines. “As Christians, we are commanded to share our
faith and love with all people across the globe,” Brinson said. “It is only through the expression
of our love… that we can share our faith and Biblical truths… regardless of their faith, whether
Jewish, Muslim, or secular.”

The group further pointed to the example of Jesus Christ, noting that his ministry crossed cultural
and religious boundaries to bring people together—not push them apart.
For many community leaders, especially in diverse and growing cities like Huntsville, the issue
highlights a broader concern: how political rhetoric can shape community relationships.
Interfaith dialogue has long been a cornerstone of building understanding, trust, and cooperation
among neighbors of different backgrounds.

The Christian Coalition is now calling on Allen to retract his statements and issue an apology to
Alabama’s Muslim community. They are also urging both the Alabama Republican Party and the
Republican National Committee to take a clear stand against rhetoric that fuels division.

“Alabamians of all faiths deserve political leaders who govern with integrity and respect—not
candidates who weaponize religion to divide voters and win elections,” the group stated.
As Alabama continues to grow and diversify, moments like this serve as a reminder that
leadership matters—not just in policy, but in tone. Community advocates say the path forward
must be rooted in respect, dialogue, and a shared commitment to unity across faiths.
