Thanks, Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Hope all is well with everyone. Everyday I thank God for Life, Health, Family, Faith, Friends and all that he does for us. Life is short as many young people are having heart attacks and dying.
So many changes are taking place in Montgomery and some of our Legislatures needs to be replaced. A bill has been filed in the Alabama Legislature that would overturn the 2017 monuments law. Conversations are going on among lawmakers that could loosen restrictions on historical structures that have been a source of friction across the state for months. The Bill already introduced, is sponsored by State Rep. Juandaily Givan, D-Birmingham and the House Minority Leader Mark Daniels, D-Huntsville. I wish they would leave the historical buildings alone as some of these structures have been in place for 40 years or more. The big money people want these historical structures removed so their friends can build on these properties and establish 50-year leases and paying very little rent. Stop the Politics and leave these beautiful buildings alone.
BOEING GIVES $500K TO SAVE SPACE CAMP
A fund raiser has already started to keep the doors open at the U.S.Space & Rocket Center and has raised more than two-thirds of it’s $1.5 Million goal. Last Friday Boeing made a $500,000 “Leadership Gift”” to the Space Camp. More than $600,000 of contributions had already been raised from 50 states before Boeing made their contribution.
BACK TO SCHOOL
Thousands of Alabama families are still trying to decide whether to allow their children to return to school in the next few weeks while the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread across the state. Some of the concerns include the requirement for mask, mingling and socializing of students and staff distancing. It is a big decision for the School system and the parents.
REPORT OF INVESTORS
A New York based private equity firm has offered to buy JC Penny with plans to merge with Belk according to the New York Times. Sycamore Partners offered $1.75 billion to buy JC Penny out of bankruptcy. Two other companies have also given similar offers. Sycamore Partners would brand some of the JC Penny stores as Belk and close the others.
CITY TIGHTENS BELT
The Covid-19 pandemic is costing Huntsville government an estimated $15 million in revenue but they report that the City is covering these losses thru reductions and will not have to dip in to the reserve. Organization outside City Hall that depend on local taxes such as the Von Braun, Huntsville Museum of Art and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are being more negatively impacted. Our government needs to use common sense in their development spending at a time like this with these organizations needing our help and our roads and infrastructure are in such a mess.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
