ALABAMA A&M UNIVERSITY AAMU SPRING/ SUMMER 2020 COMMENCEMENT

More than 700 students graduated from AAMU this morning during the University’s combined Spring and Summer Commencement. The ceremony was held at Louis Crews Stadium to ensure safety and social distancing.

Students and their families began arriving at 5 a.m. for the 7 a.m. ceremony. Alabama Senator Doug Jones was the commencement speaker. Jones praised students for their accomplishments and encouraged them to continue their paths to success. AAMU President Andrew Hugine, Jr., recognized the class for their steadfastness and shared several highlights:

 • 266 graduated with honors

 • Almost half have secured jobs

• 14 percent will continue their education

 • Two percent will join the military

 • The highest salary is $117,000

 • Four sets of twins graduated

 • Two sets of siblings graduated

• 166 students are first-generation college graduates

• 15 are second-generation AAMU graduates

• Six are third generation AAMU graduates

 • The oldest graduate is 59
