An Alabama man charged in the death of a pregnant Florida teen whose body was found last week now faces an additional capital murder charge.

Marquis Devan McCloud, 33, now faces an additional capital murder charge related to the death of 19-year-old Anastasia Gilley’s unborn child, Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza said at a news conference this morning.

He is being held without bond in the Houston County Jail. He is also charged with capital murder during a kidnapping in the death of Gilley.

He could face additional charges as the investigation develops.

“This was a horrible crime committed,” he said. “The suspect has been very, very uncooperative from the beginning.”

Gilley’s remains were found in Houston County before dawn last Wednesday.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza said last week that McCloud and Gilley were acquaintances but that investigators believe he held her against her will.

Today, he categorized their relationship as a semi-friendship that “turned, at one point, very aggressive.”

Gilley was last seen at her Jackson County, Florida, home on May 3. She was four months pregnant.

Her sister posted on Facebook that someone heard her scream near her home about 10:30 p.m. that evening and she had not been heard from or seen since then.

Her phone, purse and other personal belongings were found at her home. Valenza said it’s possible her phone was discarded against her wishes.

Valenza’s office was notified about Gilley’s disappearance on Sunday. A joint investigation by Houston County and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Florida ensued.

About 2 a.m. May 10, they received information from interviews that Gilley’s body could be in the 5000 block area of Headland Avenue. When investigators arrived at the location, they found the decomposed remains of a female. Investigators believe she was shot multiple times at the scene, Valenza said.

Valenza said today investigators have not yet received a final autopsy report yet, but he has no doubt the remains are Gilley, based on items found on the body, clothing and jewelry. Investigators believe Gilley had been dead since at least the previous Friday.
