SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. — A Georgia man faces criminal charges after police say he called 911 and falsely reported a medical emergency to avoid paying a $63.77 restaurant bill.
Abdul Hakeem Rasheed, 26, allegedly made the call from a Red Lobster on Highway 5 on September 24. Douglasville police told WSB-TV that officers determined he was not experiencing the reported emergency and believed he was trying to avoid paying for dinner.
According to an affidavit reviewed by PEOPLE, investigators accused Rasheed of deceiving them during the emergency call to avoid payment. The publication reported that he was arrested September 25.
Patch, citing the Douglas County Sentinel and county jail records, reported that Rasheed faced charges of theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call. The allegations concern both the unpaid restaurant tab and his alleged misuse of emergency services.
The accounts differ on some details surrounding his booking. PEOPLE reported a $3,000 bond, while Patch reported that jail records listed a combined bond of $4,500. His current custody status could not be independently confirmed from the records available for this report.
The allegations have not been proven in court. The reviewed reports did not establish a conviction or final disposition of the case.
