HUNTSVILLE — Alabama A&M University junior Jahan Davis is turning passion for racing into a career while earning a mechanical engineering degree on The Hill.
The 20-year-old New Orleans native began karting in 2021 after discovering NXG Racing during a NASCAR broadcast. He later completed two Skip Barber Racing School programs and earned his license.
Davis competes for Kiwi Motorsports in the Formula 4 U.S. Championship. His résumé includes five victories, 19 top-three finishes, 15 top-10 finishes and two Most Positions Gained awards.
Davis describes himself as the second Black racing driver to attend an HBCU. His dream is to own a predominantly Black team, racing school and track that give young racers greater access.
At AAMU, Davis balances engineering courses and serves as bass drum section leader in the Marching Maroon and White. He has played percussion since age 6 and received a band scholarship.
Expected to graduate in May 2028, Davis hopes to become an IndyCar driver. He said AAMU’s community helped him build connections and believe he can create opportunities for future racers.
