HUNTSVILLE — Alabama A&M University strengthened artificial intelligence education by hosting a second AI Bootcamp for approximately 180 educators, researchers, leaders, and technology professionals.
Held Sept. 1-2 at the Ernest L. Knight Center and online, the bootcamp partnered AAMU with the Alliance for AI Transformation, Amazon Web Services and AWS Machine Learning University. Participants represented institutions nationwide, especially HBCUs and community colleges.
The training explored autonomous AI agents that can reason, plan, and complete tasks. Through labs and examples, participants designed, deployed and evaluated agents using AWS tools while considering responsible practices and scalability.
AAMU research vice president Dr. Majed El-Dweik said the bootcamps support AI initiatives launched by President Daniel K. Wims two years ago.
AAMU is one of five regional lead institutions for AWS Machine Learning University, expanding access to training and collaboration. Organizers said faculty can carry skills into classrooms, research and operations, preparing students for an AI-driven workforce.
The program included a visit to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, connecting technology with Huntsville’s innovation community. A third bootcamp is planned for spring 2027.
