HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church celebrated 93 years of faith, service and spiritual leadership with a monthlong observance centered on unity, worship and the congregation’s enduring Huntsville legacy.
The anniversary culminated Sunday, Aug. 16, with a combined 9 a.m. worship service at the church’s Winchester Road campus. Dr. Stanley T. Hillard Sr., pastor of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, delivered the anniversary message and remained in Huntsville as guest preacher for a two-night churchwide revival Aug. 17–18.
This year’s theme, “One Body, Many Parts: United in Christ,” was drawn from 1 Corinthians 12. It emphasized that members of different generations, backgrounds and spiritual gifts remain connected through one body in Christ.
The celebration also included a “Power Hour of United Prayer,” a praise concert featuring Union Chapel choirs and praise dancers, a historical presentation and a family picnic. A church history display traced the congregation’s journey from Gardner Street to Orange Drive in Spragins Hollow and ultimately to its present campus at 315 Winchester Road.
Union Chapel was organized Oct. 4, 1933, in the Blue Spring Road home of the Rev. O.D. Boone and his wife, Lucy. The church’s name reflected the unity demonstrated by its founding members. Dr. O. Wendell Davis has served as the congregation’s third pastor since 1989, overseeing continued growth in worship, education, and community ministry.
Through its anniversary observance, Union Chapel honored those who built the congregation while reaffirming its commitment to future generations. Its message—93 years of faith, 93 years of service and one faithful God—captured a legacy the church continues to carry across Huntsville and Madison County.
