SPEAKIN’ OUT NEWS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A $745.4 million missile-defense contract awarded to Raytheon is expected to generate significant work in Huntsville while supporting the company’s continuing recruitment of engineers, technicians, veterans, and other skilled professionals.
The Missile Defense Agency awarded the RTX business the contract to produce and sustain Standard Missile-3 Block IIA interceptors. The weapons are designed to destroy short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles outside Earth’s atmosphere, strengthening defense capabilities for the United States and its allies.
Under the agreement, Raytheon will manufacture and assemble interceptors for the U.S. government and Japan through a Foreign Military Sales program. Production will occur at company facilities in Huntsville and Tucson, Arizona. RTX announced that it is actively hiring emerging professionals, experienced workers, and veterans to support the program.
The award follows Raytheon’s recently completed $115 million expansion of its Redstone Missile Integration Facility. The 26,000-square-foot addition increased the Huntsville operation’s missile integration and delivery capacity by more than 50 percent. When first announced, the project was expected to create approximately 185 jobs and increase RTX’s Alabama workforce to more than 2,200 employees.
Raytheon’s Huntsville operations support the design, testing, integration, production, and sustainment of missile and sensor systems. Current employment opportunities include positions in engineering, manufacturing, program management, and other technical fields.
The contract further strengthens Huntsville’s national role in missile defense, creates opportunities for local workers, and supports continued economic growth across North Alabama.
