LAS VEGAS — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter of Huntsville has received the Standard of Excellence Legacy Award from the National Black Debutante Project, recognizing the chapter’s longstanding commitment to preserving and promoting the rich tradition of Black cotillion and debutante programs.
The honor was presented during the National Black Debutante Project’s event in Las Vegas, where members of the Huntsville chapter stepped away from Alpha Kappa Alpha’s Boule activities to celebrate the achievement and support the organization’s mission.
The chapter’s president, Mrs. Tonya Wood, also participated in a featured fireside chat as a panelist, discussing the importance of preserving cotillion and debutante traditions and their role in developing leadership, scholarship, etiquette, and community service among young women.
Chapter leaders praised the National Black Debutante Project for its dedication to recognizing organizations that continue to uphold these longstanding cultural traditions while preparing future generations for success.
Special recognition was also extended to Dr. Nikita Harris, executive director of the National Black Debutante Project, for her leadership in advancing programs that celebrate the history and legacy of Black debutantes across the country.
The award highlights Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter’s continued service to the Huntsville community and its commitment to empowering youth through educational, cultural, and leadership opportunities.
