TUSCUMBIA, Ala. — North Alabama will celebrate the life and legacy of Helen Keller this month through two of the region’s most anticipated annual events: The Miracle Worker outdoor drama and the Helen Keller Festival.
The beloved production of The Miracle Worker returns to the Helen Keller Birthplace Amphitheater at Ivy Green on select dates June 12-27. The play tells the inspiring story of Keller, who overcame deafness and blindness with the help of her teacher, Anne Sullivan, and went on to become a world-renowned author, lecturer, and advocate for people with disabilities. The outdoor drama has become a summer tradition, drawing visitors from across Alabama and beyond.
Later in the month, the annual Helen Keller Festival will take place June 25-28 in Tuscumbia’s Spring Park and downtown area. The festival celebrates Keller’s achievements through live entertainment, educational programs, arts and crafts, family activities, and events promoting awareness and accessibility for the deaf and blind communities.
Visitors can also tour Ivy Green, Keller’s birthplace, where many of the events in her remarkable life unfolded.
