Sermonette of the week: ” Step Out on Faith”

by Pastor Mario D. Ford

The God we serve challenges us to step out on faith, go to higher heights, deeper depths, for His glory and our good.

From the Genesis account of creation, throughout the remainder of the Bible— God is revealed as a God of activity; conversely, He expects us to be a people of activity.

We should never allow ourselves to become closed, complacent, or confined in our progress; rather, we ought to constantly seek God’s will for our lives!

Nevertheless, if we want what God has for us, we must step out on faith.

Tragically, there are too many lazy and lethargic Christians who want everything to happen for them and aren’t willing to step out on faith and help make it happen for themselves.

There is a powerful pericope in Luke 5: 1-11, as the Lord calls some fishermen to discipleship.

Jesus gives directive to these fishermen in verse 4 to launch out into deep, serves as His call to them to step out on faith; — as He wants to do something extraordinary in their lives.

These fishermen, who would soon become disciples, are on the shores of the Lake of Gennesaret; they had been out fishing all night long, and the Bible says v.2b they are now washing their nets.

They had toiled all night, caught nothing, now they are washing their nets as they have given up.

These soon to be disciples had begun to say within themselves “it’s over”, “I’m done with trying”, “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired”; so they are washing their nets and about to go home.

Have you ever been there?

Life will bring you to moments when you are washing your nets!

However, just when they have given up, Jesus shows up, says go back out there and do it again.

Maybe you kept the faith and still got fired, you love the Lord and still lost, you on your way to heaven and still catching hell on the trip.

Step out on faith and know God will see you through!
