A north Alabama teen has been charged in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 39-year-old pedestrian.

Grant A. Beverly, 18, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death, Alabama State Troopers announced Monday.

Killed was Jeremy D. Dempsey of New Market.

The crash happened at 1:05 a.m. on Monday, April 7.

Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey said Beverly was driving an Infinity G37 when he struck Dempsey and then left the scene.

The wreck happened on Winchester Road near County Lake Road, about four miles north of Huntsville in Madison County.

Beverly was taken into custody later that day and booked into the Madison County Jail. He is out of jail on $5,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.

Dempsey left behind a son and a stepson, according to his obituary.

“Jeremy was very creative, from detailed drawing to his eclectic taste in music,” the obituary reads. “We all have memories that we will forever cherish.”
