October 15, 2023 – Today marked a momentous occasion as Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church celebrated its 163rd Church Anniversary and conducted a Mortgage Burning Ceremony on October 15, 2023. The congregation gathered to give glory to God for the milestone and to witness Pastor Emeritus Leroy Cole, the visionary behind the sanctuary 25 years ago, being honored with the task of burning the mortgage.
Pastor Dr. Larry Davidson Jr. led the Mortgage Burning Ceremony, granting Pastor Emeritus Leroy Cole the honor of setting the mortgage ablaze. It was a symbolic act representing the fulfillment of a vision conceived a quarter-century ago.
The ceremony brought the congregation together in a spirit of unity and celebration, reflecting on the shared history and accomplishments of the church.
Reverend Elliott T. Ivey from The Church Of Restoration in Oakland, California, delivered an inspiring message. The theme of the ceremony was “A Praying Church,” with the biblical reference Acts 12:1-5.
Rev. Ivey shared profound insights from the scripture, emphasizing the importance of a praying church in navigating the challenges of life. He touched on the significance of Past, Pleasure, and Plot, delivering a powerful word.
- Call to Worship: Minister Cornelious Adams led the congregation in a heartfelt call to worship.
- Devotion: Deacon W.D Strong and Deacon Richard Hardin conducted a meaningful devotion, fostering a spiritual atmosphere.
- Welcome: Mother Ruby Ford extended a warm and powerful welcome to all attendees.
- Expressions of Worship: The celebration featured a spiritual praise dance by the Dance Ministry and worship in song by the Anniversary Ensemble.
The day was filled with blessings and jubilation as the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church community commemorated 163 years of faith. The Mortgage Burning Ceremony was not just a financial milestone but a testament to the enduring vision, prayer, and dedication of the church members.
