The North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence (NACEE) and the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) hosted its 15th Annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. The event was held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 11:30 a.m., at the Redstone Federal Credit Union Atrium.
For the last 15 years, NACEE has hosted this luncheon to honor all veterans who served our country and recognize several supporting organizations.
The speaker for the day was retired Major General Patrick W. Burden. During his tenure in the United States Army, he held various positions before his retirement. MG (Ret) Burden was raised in Ozark, Alabama, and is a 1987 graduate of Alabama A&M University. He received a BS degree in Computer Science and was commissioned in the United States Army.
During his speech, MG (Ret) Burden shared ten points reflecting his leadership philosophy and seven points he called ‘Live the Army Values.’
NACEE, through their Veterans Upward Bound (VUB, provides support for veterans to develop academic skills to complete high school equivalency programs and develop skills for admission to postsecondary education pro- grams. The VUB program coordinator is LTC Sam Scruggs (US Army retired), LTC Audrey Ransom (US Army retired) serves as VUB counselor. Dr. Earnest Davis is the Executive Director/President of NACEE, and Dr. Denver Betts is the NACEE Board Chairman.
