ONE WOMAN’S OPINION

Jackie Reed Columnist

Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers.  Last week was a great week with a touch of rain now and then.  My saying weekly is, “Thank God for Life, Health, Faith, Family and Friends” and for the things you He does for us.

I want to wish my daughter a belated Happy Birthday.  On her birthday last weekend, my son and his wife, my daughter and her husband, my grandson and his girlfriend all went to the lake and spent time on my son’s boat.  Later we all had dinner and birthday cake at my daughter’s house. She said it was the best birthday ever.

She was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania Hospital, where my husband was stationed after he was drafted into the Army after college. He was scheduled to get out of the army on July 31st and my daughter was born on July 24th. If she had been born a few days later the Army would not have paid for her birth. We moved to Huntsville a month after she was born where my husband had a job. I call her a “Southern Yankee”.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Last Thursday night’s council meeting was very sad. Many citizens had signed up to speak and there were several protesters there as well. A disturbance occurred due to protesters calling for more police reform. One person was arrested following an organized protest inside the city council.  Some were talking very loud as the President of the Council tried to get them to quiet down.  Some were so loud and fussing that the Police had to come in.  Some citizens were hitting on Police Officers and screaming at them. I was hoping they would walk out peacefully but several of them had to be walked out by the Officers.  We must do right and pray the Police Officers do also.  We must respect that uniform whether you like or not as they are in charge. Do no fuss or fight with the officers as they are only trying to enforce the law and order for the safety of the people. Yes, I have been pulled over in Huntsville and did not agree with them on their reason. However, they are the law, and I must obey what they say and if I disagree, I need to do so in a court of law. The city is studying and having meetings on police reform. I was so sorry to have seen this episode at City council and I have never seen anything like it in my 30 years of going to the meetings.

VACCINATED
Please call your doctor and ask about the vaccine if you have not had it. Talk to your family and friends about taking the COVID-19 shot too if they are able.  Governor Ivey believes unvaccinated folks are letting Alabama down by not taking the shot.  She believes the citizens are choosing a horrible lifestyle.  People must take care of themselves and have consideration for others as well. The state is having a hard time about mandating the Mask again.  The people need to use common sense and take good care of self and family regardless of what the state comes up with.

Love you all and have a blessed week.
