Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Hope everyone is having a great summer as it is passing by fast. School starts soon and we must pray the virus is ending so we have a “normal” year. Many teachers have retired, and I hope the schools have been able to fill these positions.
I am happy to see Mr. William Smothers and his family on Facebook and am thankful for their “Speakin Out News” newspaper. Thanks to Mr. Smothers for allowing me to write a column in his wonderful newspaper for over 15 years. As the column is called, “One Woman’s Opinion” it gives me a chance to share what I learn from the many city meetings I attend and the people I speak with to provide my opinion. I realize I can be very tough on the Politicians, but my goal is that they will hear me and do what is right for the people. There is a song written by Mr. George Wells from south Huntsville called, “The Legend of Jackie Reed” which is a political song that says she is a woman you will love or a woman you will hate. You can hear his song on YouTube.
GOVERNMENT ISSUES
After reading papers and listening to the news daily it is frightening to think what is happening to America. If we are not careful, they will be changing the name of America and our flag. Our City, State and Country leaders need to study the issues before they cast their votes.
One issue here in Huntsville is why did the Heart of Huntsville property set there empty for so many years and why did the Mayor or Planning Department not help the owner of this property when they help all the others?
JOHNSON AMPHITHEATER
After 4 years, the Johnson Legacy Center is getting underway. This project is being built at the former site of Johnson High School and demolition of the school will soon begin. There will be town homes, single-homes, multi-family units, an entertainment center, and a retention pond. Councilman Showers and I both attended Devyn Keith’s Town Hall meeting years ago where Mr. John Hamilton presented the project to the mayor and the public. Showers and I both felt and still do that this property should have been considered for another use such a large sports complex like John Hunt Park.
BLUE ORIGIN
Blue Origin owned by Billionaire Jeff Bezos donated $1M to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville to be used for the Space Camp and Museum. Blue Origin opened a rocket engine facility in Huntsville back in 2020. The funds came from a $28m donation to Blue Origin for a seat on the New Shephard space launch vehicle scheduled to launch on July 20.
CITY LEADERS
When will our City Leaders learn some Common Sense? Why did we not plan our roads and greenways before we took off to be the largest city in the state. These issues should have been addressed first.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
