Huntsville’s Progressive Union Church Leading the Way – COVID Vaccines

Huntsville’s Progressive Union Church was in a group of churches that received doses of the Pfizer COVID 19 vaccines from Huntsville Hospital. The church received 50 doses on Tuesday, March 2, with priority being given to the church’s Child Development Center employees, after that the remaining doses were available to members of the church who were eligible. Progressive Union was honored to have their oldest member, and the only surviving founding member of the church, to receive a vaccine. Mother Georgia Mae Lacey Lanier, who will be 103 years old on April 15 of this year, received one of the doses. Mother Lanier is the only surviving member of Progressive Union, which was founded in 1947. She was escorted to the event by her daughter, Mary Lanier Curry, a member of Progressive Union. Mother Lanier’s son, Everett is also a member of the church along with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several other relatives. Those receiving the doses on Tuesday, March 2, will return on Tuesday, March 23 for their second dose. Progressive Union is blessed to have Mother Lanier and to have her leading the way for our church. The church extends a thank you to Huntsville Hospital for the vaccines and their support in administering the vaccines. The event was held at the Progressive Union Sanctuary, located at 1917 Brandontown Road, Rev. Joe Stevenson is the interim pastor.
