AAMU VIRTUAL DISCUSSION AND SALUTE TO ACTIVIST FANNIE LOU HAMER

Activist, Fannie Lou Hamer

Alabama A&M University will join a team of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) for a live discussion on Facebook and Twitter on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at 7 p.m.(EST), 6 p.m.(CST). The Power of “HER” Vote is an opportunity to galvanize Black women voters and women of color at the ballot box. It’s crucial to mobilize and awaken unregistered voters.

Voting is sacred for all eligible voters. Every vote counts! Black women are important in every election. Exercising the right to vote protects our democracy and our voice!

Erica Fox Washington of Alabama A&M University WJAB-FM 90.9 and the Civic Engagement Committee will moderate the event. Dr. Jessica Temple, AAMU assistant professor of English, will be among the presenters, as well as 9-yearold Sahlom Long and 8-year-old Charis Long, daughters of AAMU graduates Carlos and Denise Long.

The virtual discussion, and salute to Fannie Lou Hamer, will acknowledge the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment and Suffrage Act. Please watch and get in on the Facebook discussion here: https://www.facebook.com/PowerofHERVote.
