Sieck Named Preseason All-SWAC; Lady Bulldogs Picked Third in Poll

BIRMINGHAM – With the regular-season opener approaching in two weeks, the Alabama A&M University volleyball team has been predicted to finish third in the conference in a vote by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Sophomore Meredith Sieck also earned Preseason All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors, as announced by the conference office Monday.

Alabama A&M tallied a total of 117 points to finish third behind Texas Southern, who finished in the runner-up spot with a 129 points. Alabama State was chosen first with 155 points.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff racked up 93 points, good for fourth. Prairie View A&M (85), Grambling State (82), Southern (81) and Jackson State (76) followed. Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State rounded out the standings with 32 and 30 points, respectively.

Sieck, a native of Ankeny, IA, garnered All-SWAC second team honors. The reigning SWAC Freshman of the Year set the standard among SWAC setters in her freshman season. She led the conference with 881 assists and 8.31 assists per set. She posted three of the five-best-single-game assist efforts by any league player this season and cracked the 50-assist plateau twice during the year.

The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up last season with a record 14-20, including a 14-4 SWAC mark.
