BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Authorities say a young boy was shot while he was asleep inside his southwest Birmingham home early Monday.
Birmingham police said shots were fired about 3 a.m. into the home at 301 14th Street S.W. Multiple rounds struck the 12-year-old boy. He was home with his grandmother.
“This situation is troubling in and of itself because you have someone willfully shooting into a families’ home,” said Birmingham police Sgt. Bryan Shelton.
“The fact that the victim was a child only adds more sorrow. It is obvious the shooter doesn’t care.”
He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is stable condition. Police said he appeared to be conscious when he left the scene.
Police have not announced any arrests.
