KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Missouri family is mourning the loss of a 10-year-old boy after authorities say he wandered away from home while sleepwalking and was later found dead in a nearby pond.
Police said Jackson S. Georgari disappeared shortly after midnight near the 1100 block of Northwest Vivion Road. Family members told investigators Jackson had a history of sleepwalking and believe he unknowingly left the house while still asleep.
According to relatives, Jackson had wandered from home during previous sleepwalking episodes but had always been found safely. They believe he may have followed a familiar route near wooded areas, streams, and ponds that he recognized from riding his school bus.
A large search effort involving police officers, firefighters, K-9 teams, drones, and multiple emergency agencies was launched after Jackson was reported missing. Search crews later discovered his body in a pond near Briarcliff Village, approximately one-half mile from his home.
Firefighters attempted lifesaving measures, but Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. Family members said the fourth-grader did not know how to swim.
Authorities said there are no indications of foul play, and the case is being investigated as a standard death investigation. The Jackson County Medical Examiner will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Jackson’s family and their pastor have asked the community to keep them in prayer as they grieve the heartbreaking loss of a young life cut tragically short.
