DAPHNE, Ala.—A 17-year-old Baldwin County teenager has been charged as an adult withmurder and attempted murder after authorities say he fatally stabbed his mother andcritically injured his father during a violent attack at the family’s home Sunday night.
According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, Samantha Baker, 37, died from her injuries, while her husband, Lance Baker, 46, was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators said the incident occurred at the family’s residence on Augustine Drive in Daphne. A neighbor told reporters that home surveillance cameras captured Lance Baker running through the neighborhood, calling for help after suffering multiple stab wounds. The neighbor said the father sought assistance at several nearby homes before emergency responders arrived.
Authorities said the teenager later called 911 and admitted to the stabbings before deputies took him into custody. Officials have not released the suspect’s name because he is 17, although he is being prosecuted as an adult. A judge reportedly set bond at $1 million.
Samantha Baker, a realtor, previously served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard andArmy Reserve, where she met her husband. Lance Baker has served more than 26 years in the U.S. Army Reserve and currently serves as a battalion commander based in Mobile.
Investigators have not released a motive for the attack, and the case remains under investigation. Authorities said another teenage child in the family was not home during the incident.
