Letter to the Editor: Lawrence County Resident Questions Direction of School System Leadership

This is an opinion.

Dear Speakin’ Out News,

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the direction of the Lawrence County School System and the leadership responsible for guiding it. Our community deserves a superintendent and school board that are fully committed to serving students, supporting employees, and maintaining a fair, transparent, and high-quality educational environment.

If conditions within the district have truly improved, it is reasonable to ask why there appears to be hesitation in hiring qualified teachers. Strong schools are built on strong educators, and the Lawrence County School System should be actively recruiting and retaining the best talent available to serve our students.

It is also important for community members to have confidence that district leadership is committed to upholding constitutional principles and ensuring fairness, accountability, and transparency in public education. Many residents continue to question whether the school board has moved beyond outdated practices and embraced the needs of a diverse and evolving community.

The future of our children must remain the district’s highest priority. Ignoring concerns about leadership, hiring practices, or workplace culture risks undermining public trust and raises questions about whether students and educators are receiving the support they deserve.

As a community, we should expect our schools to promote equal opportunity, fairness, and professionalism in all employment and educational decisions. These values strengthen our schools and help create an environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

I encourage citizens to carefully consider whether the current administration is meeting the expectations of the community and providing the leadership necessary to move the district forward. Our students, families, educators, and taxpayers deserve nothing less.
