HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Huntsville Utilities (HU) is urging customers with outstanding balances to act immediately, as the utility company is set to resume assessing late fees and disconnecting services for non-payment starting Monday, January 5, 2026.
The enforcement of these policies—which include late fees and service disconnection for unpaid account balances—had been temporarily paused. This halt began in mid-August to accommodate HU’s transition to a new enterprise software system. The utility later extended the grace period through the recent government shutdown to offer support to customers experiencing financial hardship.
Now, that grace period is ending. Customers must bring their accounts current before the January 5 deadline to avoid penalties and potential service interruption.
If you are concerned about your ability to update your account, Huntsville Utilities strongly advises you to contact their Customer Contact Center as soon as possible.
