Volunteers gathered at Campus 805 in Huntsville for a community cleanup event on Monday, honoring Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.

Huntsville invited volunteers to take part in a community cleanup event on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service.

The focus was Campus 805 and the surrounding area, according to a city news release. The city’s Green Team set up a tent at S.R. Butler Green at Campus 805, 2620 Clinton Ave., and the event ran from 9 to 11 a.m.

“The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service was a tremendous opportunity to honor Dr. King’s legacy and give back to your community,” Landscape Management Director Brian Walker said. “Our community cleanups were also a time to make new friends and join together in an effort to make Huntsville an even better place to live and work.”

The Green Team provided volunteers with tools and equipment, including gloves, litter sticks, safety vests, and trash bags. Green Team, a Keep America Beautiful affiliate, was a division of the city’s Landscape Management Department.
