The Man, the Mission, and the Ministry, this was the theme for the celebration of life for Rev. Dr. Wayne P. Snodgrass who passed on Monday, September 17, 2018 and life was celebrated on Saturday, September 29, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at the Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church.
In the funeral bulletin there were three sections, The Man, The Mission, and The Ministry, each section was written by Pastor Snodgrass. Pastor Snodgrass served as the pastor of Progressive Union for almost 33 years, having been called to the pastoral in 1986 and serving until his death on Monday, September 17, 2018.
In the history of Progressive Union, Rev. Snodgrass was the longest serving pastor. His life was celebrated in a very moving and spiritually uplifting funeral that included tributes, including a tribute by his son, Israel, who remembered his father in a verbal tribute and then by leading the mass choir in a musical tribute that included songs that were his father’s favorites.
Music for the funeral service was presented by the Progressive Union Church Mass Choir and Headed to Glory, a group founded by Israel Snodgrass. Solos were performed by Dr. Janette Kotey and Ryan Patrick Parker.
Words of comfort were given by Rev. Snodgrass’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Julius Scruggs, Pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville and eulogy by Bishop Daniel Richardson, Senior Pastor of Eagles Nest Ministries, Huntsville, Alabama. His message title was “A Good Soldier”, 2 Timothy 2:1. The church was filled, including the sanctuary and rooms in the building where those in attendance could watch the services on TV monitors. Pastor Snodgrass was laid to rest at Huntsville Memory Gardens next to his late wife Evelyn Schumake Snodgrass who passed in October 2012.
