Thanks to Speakin Out News and to our many dedicated readers. Enjoy ever day as time is short lived. It is hard to believe it is May already and Schools are about be out for summer. My grandson is home from Auburn and starting his intern job. He works every summer and that is always good. I will be glad when I get my energy back and can get out and about again.
COVID-19
I am hoping that COVID-19 will not be taken for granted as it is not over yet. The people need to be careful and stay on the safe side. It was confirmed that 23,000 health care workers in Alabama have had COVID-19 since March 2020. Many workers soon will be back on the job again and hopefully business will rebound. Everyone should wear their mask if they are sick.
CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
Last Wednesday’s work session lasted over 3 hours. Mr. John Hamilton, the Administrator to the Mayor, had a great meeting with the public explaining some dramatic improvements related the handling of the riots last year. In the meeting a report was released criticizing Police actions at two of the 2020 protests. City Council members talked about changes needed for policing, and the Administration is still working toward specific ideas for improvements. Most of the City Council members supported the release of body cam videos. They are also taking suggestions from the public about additional policing changes.
SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT
A former School Superintendent from Huntsville is running for Congress. Casey Wardynski announced his campaign on a video last Thursday on his Facebook page, YouTube and campaign website. The video begins with a voice over the phone saying, “Asked to serve our nation with President Trump.” The video highlights Wardynski’s appointment by Trump to the position of Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. This appointment would continue a 30-year career in the Army for Wardynski. I am so happy for him and his career. However, when he was the Superintendent of Huntsville City Schools, I hated to see Stone Middle School be given away when it was a big school with lots of valuable property. I was at the School Board Meeting when the property was for sale for over $5 Million but of course a deal was a made somewhere for millions less.
AMERICA AND HUNTSVILLE GOVERNMENT
I could say a lot about our new President and the direction he is going but I will not. I just wish he would use some “Common Sense”. The same with our leaders of Huntsville. Have, they worked for Biden as they do not know the words “COMMON SENSE PLANNING” either? Next year is election for 3 of them and it may be time for a change in government.
VBC – PLEASE
We need to build a new VBC across the street from the current one. Please quit adding on to the existing VBC. The coke property across the street would be better for extending the VBC and a lot better investment than a lot of things our city leaders have wasted money on.
Love you all and have a blessed week.
