TROY, Ala. — A judge has set bonds for two men charged with murder in the shooting death of Troy University student Carlique Miller, while a third defendant facing drug charges has been released on bond.

Troy Police Chief Danny Barron told WSFA that Dejuane Lamar Washington, 20, of Gadsden, received a $150,000 bond, and Keifer Jayden Walker, 18, of Montgomery, received a $100,000 bond Monday, Nov. 2. Both remained in custody as of Monday evening.

Parker Hughes Thompson, 18, of Wetumpka, posted bond over the weekend. He faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Miller, 21, of Dothan, died after an Oct. 29 shooting at an off-campus apartment complex. Officers responded to the 600 block of Elm Street around 10:41 p.m., found him unresponsive with a gunshot wound, and attempted CPR. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the latest development, Barron and Pike County District Attorney James Tarbox told WSFA that Thompson was allegedly robbed by Washington and Walker. Authorities have not publicly clarified Miller’s role or whether he was a bystander.

Tarbox emphasized the legal requirements guiding prosecutors, saying, “The law is the law, and we’re going to follow the law.” Officials declined to discuss whether the shooting involved self-defense.

Troy University said all three defendants were students and had been suspended and barred from campus, according to TrojanVision. University police and other local agencies are assisting investigators.

Anyone with information may contact Troy police at 334-566-0500. The investigation remains ongoing, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
